The potato sector in China is the biggest in world and is expanding rapidly.
Worldwide the Netherlands is taking a leading position in the export of seed potatoes and in the marketing and sales of technology for potato production, storage systems and integrated potato processing facilities for the production of amongst others frozen fries, potato crisps, flakes and starch. This leading position has been achieved over a long period of time following an integrated approach through cooperation between businesses, research institutes as well as universities, extension and advisory services.
A prominent consortium of Dutch companies, branch organisations and know-how providers, supported by its Chinese partners, has decided to cooperate in order to strengthen its position in the Chinese potato production and processing sectors. The 2gethere program, funded by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, supports these activities which has resulted in the formulation and funding of the Orange Potato project.
The aim of the Orange Potato project is to increase the exposure of the Dutch know-how and technology suppliers in the Chinese potato sector and by doing so to increase the exports of advanced potato storage and processing technology of the participating consortium partners.
The project comprises a combination of activities including know-how transfer through cooperation between Chinese and Dutch agricultural universities, the realisation a demonstration project in potato storage and to increase the visibility of the Dutch machine manufacturing companies through the organization trade fairs and trade missions from Dutch delegations to China and from Chinese officials to the Netherlands.
